Debenhams release improved shopper app.
Debenhams release improved shopper app. Following their original highly successful app launch in October 2010, Debenhams Plc (LON:DEB) have today released an updated, fully-transactional shopping app for their nationwide stores. Owners of smartphones including iPhone, Nokia and Android can download the free application straight to their phones and help aid the often stressful experience associated with high street shopping.Highlights of the app include a 'Barcode Scanner' which uses the phones camera to check the barcode against other products and helpful user reviews, aimed to give full satisfaction to the customer. Debenhams have put themselves ahead of other high-street retailers by being the first to offer such innovative apps, such as the barcode scanner, with customers using it over 90,000 times within the first five months of its launch. Harriet Williams, Head of Digital Development for Debenhams states: "Launching on the Android and Nokia platforms opens Debenhams mobile shopping to another millions more customers, bridging the gap between the high street and Debenhams.com. "Acting as a pocket personal shopper, downloading the Debenhams app means getting lost, not being able to find your size and having to carry heavy bags home are pitfalls of shopping trips past". App DevelopmentOther available shopping apps include supermarket giants such as Tesco and Ocado offering interactive delivery services, with data memory of your specific shopping habits and the offer of alternative products. With the rise of smartphone technology and the option for the customer to check on the spot if your product offered is actually great value for money, more and more companies are turning to app development. Debenhams have carefully crafted their new app to offer services such as the 'Wish List' where customers create their own list of desired products and can send it to other users on occasions such as their birthday. Another feature designed to lessen the confusion of huge department stores is the 'Store Locater' in which customers can use it as a mini sat-nav and access information such as opening hours and facilities available. With this Debenhams hopes to interact further with their customers by offering this new mobile service and opens up their customer clientele by expanding their stores through innovative apps. Williams adds: "The launch of the Android and Nokia apps also brings Debenhams to an expanded international audience. With shopping and delivery on the iPhone app proving popular as far away as the USA, Australia and New Zealand, time-poor consumers can now enjoy Debenhams directly from their mobile wherever and whenever they like."
