With the London Mayor elections on 5 May drawing ever closer, Labour’s Sadiq Khan continues to hold the advantage over Conservative Zac Goldsmith. According to the latest YouGov research, Khan has a seven point lead over Goldsmith, with the two politicians currently expected to win 32% and 25% of voters respectively.

The Mayor hopeful’s priorities

Khan

  • Be the most pro-business Mayor yet, working in partnership with industry to deliver on skills, infrastructure, and growth
  • Set up Skills for Londoners to ensure all Londoners have the opportunity to train in the skills that our economy needs
  • Tackle low pay, working with employers to make London a Living Wage City
  • Challenge gender inequality, working to close the gender pay gap and support women to break the glass ceiling while helping to remove the barriers to women’s success.

Goldsmith

  • Start fixing London’s housing crisis by building new homes and giving Londoners the first chance to buy
  • Improving the reliability of London’s transport system by ensuring the Night Tube plans go ahead and growing the rail network
  • Improving London’s living environment
  • Making London’s streets safer by keeping police teams on the street and tackling the root causes of crime in local communities

Sue Terpilowski OBE, FSB London Policy Chairman said: “The FSB welcomes the drive by all Mayoral candidates to raise the issue of affordability and availability of commercial space…London’s ecosystem relies on small businesses providing jobs to employees travelling one, two, three or even four hours a day. We cannot afford to lose small businesses from the central zones.”
